Minimizing the scar

Minimizing the scar

Postby EastCoast » Wed Apr 29, 2009 12:32 am

I have a scar on my neck from thryroid surgery. It's not that bad but i'm only 4 months out from my surgery and i want to do everything possible to hide the scar. Does anyone know what I can do to help improve the healing? I've heard of vitamin E oil, no sure where to find that.

I'm having my surgery next week, complete thyroidectomy. I'll ask the doctor if he recommends anything to reduce the scaring. I don't want a permanent necklace either. I will try anything if it works!

I used vitamin E oil lotion that I purchased at walmart. I applied it everynight. I also used sunblock SPF 30 everyday. My scar looks great!

Here are some good things to try. I've come acrossed these different ways to lessen the scaring. I've tried them all. But many people swear by them.

Vitamin E oil
Sunblock (for at least one year)
Keep it covered from the sun
Occasionally rub the scar to increase circulation
Bacitracin ointment for a few weeks after the surgery
