Radioactive Iodine Treatment effectiveness

I just had my scan today - a week after I received the Iodine treatment for Papillary Carcinoma. I was told that the scan today was to check if there was any evidence that the cancer spread in other parts of my body.

My question is: if there are still cancer remnants in my neck or other parts of my body, what's next? Will the radioactivity of the iodine uptake kill those cancer cells and how long will this take?

Any feedback would be appreciated.
