Traveling with family by car after RIT

Traveling with family by car after RIT

Postby momoftwo » Sat Jul 04, 2009 5:46 pm

Hi everyone,

I recently had surgery to have my thyroid removed for papillary carcinoma. I will be doing the RIT in about 3 weeks.

Would anyone know how soon I can travel by car with family once the therapy is over? I know the length of time depends on how soon after I did the treatment. We would be travelling for about 9 hours to our destination.

Thank you!

I was given about 100 MCi of iodine-131 for papillary thyroid cancer.

I stayed in the hospital for two days after my initial treatment. According to my discharge papers from the hospital I was not allowed to be within 6 feet of children (anyone under 18 years of age or pregnant) for 7 days after my treatment. This included NO driving in vehicles with children. They were very specific about that.

Hope this helps. Good luck :)
